Chapter Number6
TitleCrown of Sorin
Primary Locationcliffhaven
Dm NotesThis is the chapter where the Crown of Sorin is introduced as the campaign's central MacGuffin. The Steel Princess fled north β the party will pursue her in ch-07. Simon Fairbreeze's survival or death here matters: the ch-05 interlude notes he is 'now deceased,' implying he died during or shortly after the graveyard encounter. Drift's agenda (foresaw Tray burning Arla) creates a long-term tension. The rune crystal rod Simon showed bears a maker's mark β track this detail as it recurs. The Landus 'New Normal' event (Freeriver killing the Redshield ruler, Landus rising) is described at the end of the 02 source as a background event happening offscreen during this chapter.
Detailed NarrativeTrayalon has grown and stabilized over the past year, with walls extended and merchant routes established. Seamus Adair informs Solomon of a graveyard meeting near Cliffhaven where conspirators from Redshields, Swiftwater, and Freeriver houses are plotting against Tray. The party travels to Cliffhaven β a culturally diverse city grown up around Terek's Folly obsidian cliffs β and investigates the Wild Squall Inn and the ruins nearby. They encounter Drift, an Arla diplomat of the Sparrow Tribe who reveals Tray has sent spies to Arla, and Simon Fairbreeze, a Hesh descendant who shows the party a rune crystal rod and reveals that Trayalon is built atop the ancient Hesh city of Vadesh. At the graveyard meeting, the party intercepts the three River Lord liaisons, with both Drift and Simon present. Upon the party's return, a local adventurer called the Steel Princess has emerged possessed from the monastery catacombs wearing the Crown of Sorin β a relic that preserved the god Sorin's consciousness after his plane collapsed during Terek's Folly. The Steel Princess kills two guards and flees north toward Sorin's temple on Serpent's Lake. The party explores the opened catacomb chamber and recovers ancient Hesh coins, a magical candle, and a holy symbol of Sorin.
