Detailed NarrativeFinnora tells the party the Deepwood tribe holds the Medallion of Targol — once used to install and create life, also able to store life essence of its owners. The council of 12 Arla tribes destroyed it publicly as a show of unity (to prevent elder entrapment), but gave the broken pieces to Deepwood. Macklot may be pursuing knowledge of the medallion along with his quest to absorb elder spirits. The party rides east to Highwall through charred Deepwood forest. Frizzbolt the Cruel (old gnome sorcerer, cruel and clever) oversees the assault on Highwall — golems, jinni, and freed banshees attacking the city walls. He appears as an image to offer Macklot's terms. Macklot himself communicates through Frizzbolt: he wants the tome of life and Princess Finnora. He offers 100,000 gold for the tome. He argues only a unified Arla under his rule can stand against the evil coming from the ruins of Vadesh (Trayalon). He's fascinated by the Lightwatch forges. He offers to leave Lightwatch independent if the party surrenders Finnora. Rhett (injured) commands the dwindling Greybear/fey/half-orc resistance inside Highwall. Finnora dashes into the burning temple and retrieves the broken Medallion of Targol from a secret floor compartment, placing it around her neck. Frizzbolt then attacks, throwing the severed heads of Janice and Henry (Brightborn paladins) at the party's feet.
