Detailed NarrativeThe tomb's narrow corridors (5 feet wide, only medium creatures can move freely) force tactical challenges. The party fights through multiple encounters: the wraith of Master Hestus (the family's master-at-arms who sacrificed himself to become a guardian) and his sacrificed ghost servants; the mummified Advisor Vela with Grinnious's wight siblings; and the undead antipaladin Family Cleric Bartus at the altar. A trap-laden vault door (Thievery DC 25, trap Perception 20 / Thievery DC 25 or necrotic blast) protects chests with 300 gp in Hesh coins, 450 gp in gems, a Bag of Holding, Bracers of Missile Deflection, Doubling Rings, and Ghost Touch and Returning runes. A deeper level contains the Loyal Legion of wights plus a rock debris trap. The revenant Cursed Lady Vestag β betrayed and killed by Grinnious as part of his immortality ritual β haunts her chamber seeking revenge. Lord Modus tries hard to destroy her. Finally the party reaches Grinnious Vestag himself, still awakening from his long slumber, confused and believing the Hesh still rule and Helmar is still a dominant power. He was a greedy Hesh treasury official who made a deal with Sorin to bind his soul to his ancestral armor for preservation. He does not have the frost stone Gorefist sought. The party defeats or negotiates with Grinnious, takes his cursed graveknight armor and substantial gold, and seals the tomb. Lord Modus is killed in the encounter. The party retrieves magic items and exits.
SummaryThe party descends through the multiple floors of the Vastag family tomb, fighting undead guardians, navigating lethal traps, and ultimately confronting Grinnious Vestag β an ancient graveknight who sealed himself away in Hesh times, waiting for Sorin to give him eternal life. Lord Modus falls in the tomb. The party recovers significant treasure including magic items, Hesh-era coins, and Vestag's cursed graveknight armor. Gorefist does not have the frost stone β Vestag never possessed it. Sessions 12-13.
